What Are Oxygen Absorbers?

Oxygen absorbers, also known as oxygen scavengers, are designed primarily to prolong the shelf life and viability of products that are sensitive to oxidation, rot, color loss, and rancidity. The combination of a sealed container (such as a MylarFoil pouch) with an oxygen absorber or desiccant is sometimes referred to as active packaging or a sorbent system. By removing the oxygen in an atmosphere we create an anaerobic environment whereby microorganisms cannot live and grow. This also preserves the flavor and color of foods and products and prevents rancidity in products that have high oil content. We developed our Stay Fresh™ Oxygen Scavenger packets with this goal in mind.

When used correctly, oxygen scavengers can reduce the oxygen level in an enclosed container to 0.01% thereby giving your product the best possible environment to reside in. As temperature and relative humidity (RH) can both affect the performance of the oxygen absorber sachet, please let us know if your product is not packaged at ambient temperature and RH (This is generally considered 73°F and between 50% and 60% RH).
